During the preparations for the School of Biblical Studies we, as school staff, have formulated some values that we want to be guided by throughout the school. Values are important: they formulate our motives and goals. Where do we come from en where do we want to go to? They are no laws and don’t describe into detail what we ‘should’ do at any given moment, but on the basis of them we can make decisions and determine our direction. These are our values for this school:
1. Love God
Above else we love the Triune God: Father, Son and Spirit. We desire to walk in intimacy with Him and bring glory to Him through everything we do.
2. Love people
All human beings are made in Gods image and therefore immensely valuable. We want to always express Gods love to one another. Furthermore, we endeavour to recognize and acknowledge everyone’s unique character, personality, talents & gifts and encourage one another to grow in these things and use them.
3. By the Spirit
We are in desperate need of the Spirit’s wisdom, power and guidance. He is Gods empowering presence. We open our hearts, minds and classroom to Him.
4. Team
We love the joy of being team, the opportunity to share life with Christ together and the diversity of complementary gifts, talents, and skills.
5. Output
That which the students have learned through their studies of Gods Word should inform their thinking, talking and doing, not merely fill their heads with knowledge. In other words, the process of bible study isn’t finished before that which is learned is applied.
6. Inductive Bible Study
We believe that the inductive approach to the bible helps us understand that which God spoke through the divinely inspired author. He originally spoke to the believing communities in O.T. and N.T. times, but as part of the believing community of this age we regard ourselves as heirs of their texts.
7. Excellence
We want to give the very best to God and man and yet we realize our own weaknesses and restraints in terms of time, energy, means, and skills.
8. Joy
Our desire is to go through SBS with joy, despite the effort we’ll need to put in. This desire also applies to the students.
