Here’s an overview of what you can expect during the SBOL. The SBOL staff will be giving all the lectures and function as study mentors. The SBOL is primarily designed to dive in the Word of God together, but everyday there’ll be some spare time to enjoy Greece and there’s 1 free day a week.

Each week of the SBOL will involve the following:

• Field trip to ancient site
• Study mentoring
• Work duties
• Good food, fun and fellowship!

The books & subjects covered are:

•  Introduction to the Bible
• Overview of the Bible
• Introduction to the apostle Paul
• Introduction to Inductive Bible Study
• Acts
• 1 Thessalonians
• Philippians
• 1 Corinthians

Age and language:

The SBOL is open for anyone above 18 (YWAM’ers and non-YWAM’ers). The course will be conducted in both English and Dutch.

Inductive Bible Study is all about letting the Bible speak for itself. So, how do you allow the Bible to speak for itself and thus transform your thinking and actions? The following basic skills will assist you:

1. Prayer. We need the help of the Holy Spirit to gain insight to God’s Word.
2. Read the entire book, not just a couple of verses or one chapter at a time.
3. Examine the Biblical text in order to see what it actually says (observation).
4. Then try to find an answer to the question “what did the text mean to the original readers?” So, “what was their situation and how did the Word speak into it?” (interpretation)
5. Finally, think about the application of the text for today, for your personal life, and for church and society (application).

The skills of observation, interpretation and application are key to the inductive study of the Word.
