A DTS is a journey. It is being awakened to the reality of an authentic relationship with Jesus Christ. It is hearing His voice to follow Him in this world. DTS is an adventure to the heart of God – discovering who He really is and how His heart goes out to the whole world. When we meet Him and get a glimps of His unending worth, then our only response can be to lay down our lives in radical worship and dedication to Him, and to give ourselves away for His honor and glory. So? Are you up for a challenge that will put your world upside down?
This special DTS aims to bring all generations, denominations and nations together to grow in radical worship and dedication to the One who saved us. For families with children we have made accommodations so they can have an awesome DTS experience as well (Family DTS).
We are looking for people (singles, couples and families) who want to grow as radical, wholehearted disciples of Jesus Christ. People who believe in the amazing power of unity between generations, denominations and nations. People who can pray together with our Lord: ‘Father, make us one so the world will know that Jesus was sent by God.’
This special DTS takes about five months in total. The first part is the lecture phase, which will take about three months. Here you will get a strong foundation for your life with and for Christ. Every week we will dive into a new topic about God, His mission, the church and you as His disciple. You will spend this time mainly at YWAM Heidebeek, the biggest YWAM base in the Netherlands; always vibrant, fun and challenging.
The second part is the outreach (a missions trip). In this phase of about two months you will go with a team to another country to spread the good news and be a blessings in Jesus name. The DTS will close of with a last week at YWAM Heidebeek.
For more detailled information about the lecture phase and the outreach click further on the link on the left.

more information or signing up: firstname.lastname@example.org or +31 578-691534
The lecture phase takes about 11-12 weeks. Every week you’ll receive great teachings about important topics in your walk with God. We’ll have domestic and international teachers. Everything will be in English and Dutch. All teachings can be clustered into one or more of the following general teaching areas:
- Encountering God (knowing Him)
- Seeing all of life from God’s perspective (renew our thinking)
- Recognizing Jesus as Lord (discipleship)
- Becoming more like Jesus
- Doing the works of Jesus
Where will you stay?
u will stay in a domitory, which we call Licht in Duuster (Light in darkness). This is the place where you will sleep, eat often, live together with fellow students and staff, have fun, study and relax. It is wonderful to see how relationships can develop in such an atmosphere!
In Licht in Duuster you will probably share your room with other students. If you are married you will get your own room, and if you have children they will also get a room. In Licht in Duuster we share the bathroom and toilet facilities.
How does a ‘standard’ lecture day look like?
You’ll start with breakfast at Licht in Duuster. From there to the place of lectures is about a 15 minutes bike ride through the wonderful Dutch nature that surrounds Heidebeek. No problem if you don’t have a bicycle, because you can rent one cheap at Heidebeek.
Every morning we will have teaching, worship, prayer times or other school activities. We will also join in regulary with base worship and intercession. Coffee break is in our nice coffee corner. At lunch time you will be provided a hot meal in our dining hall at Heidebeek.
In the afternoon you will be assigned with work duties. At two – four evenings a week you will have school activities, such as lectures, prayer times, family nights and small groups. During the lecture phase we’ll also have field assignments to practise what we have been taught.
What is provided for children?
For little children we will run a creche every morning. You can bring your children there in the morning, and collect them at lunch time. During school activities in the afternoon and evening we will look after the children as a school.
The schedule is also adjusted to families. All these things make it possible for families to do a DTS. If you need to provide home schooling for your children it can be best to bring a tutor, or we can see if we can arrange something so you as parent can give home schooling.
Spring is a nice time of the year to be at Heidebeek; you’ll see Dutch nature growing and blooming as the forest and heather fields are next to our base. You can find more about the climate on this webpage.
But not only nature will grow and bloom, also you as a DTS student. You’ll get lots of opportunities to grow in your relationship with God and others, and to find your place in His story.
The second half of the DTS is the outreach, a field trip of two to three months. This is a trip to another country to practice what you’ve learned in the lecture phase. During the lecture phase the destinations of the outreaches will be made known. In each school there are usually two or three different outreach destinations (depending on the number of students participating in the school). The outreach will take place during the summer holiday so the kids will be able to travel along.
A Discipleship Training School is a life shaping and direction altering experience! God’s presence in both challenge and encouragement is tangible and inspiring. The context that this happens in is so important. Great speakers, great atmosphere and a staff team that takes the journey with you. These are all areas where Heidebeek shines out. It was (and is) a fantastic place to draw near to God, be encouraged in your missions vision, and learn what it means to live for Jesus. The support of the whole Heidebeek community contributes to the experience in a special way!

I had the privilege to teach for many years in different DTS’s at Heidebeek, which I enjoyed a lot. There is a nice, open, lovely and hospitable atmosphere in the school. Because I always was very positive and passionate about Heidebeek, both of my daughters did their DTS there. It’s been a life-changing experience for them both. That’s why I recommend the DTS at Heidebeek.

Having taught in Discipleship Training Schools (DTS) for almost 30 years, I’ve witnessed firsthand what God can do in the lives of hungry hearts. I’ve seen young and old transformed by the power of God, by His revelation and by the work of the Holy Spirit. Months spent away from home seeking God often in a cross culture environment is a huge challenge, an amazing step of faith and can be quite a sacrifice. But our Heavenly Father does not disappoint. When Jesus touches lives, those lives are never the same.
My significant time spent at YWAM, Heidebeek has proven to me time and time again that this is a special place with a special team of leaders and staff. They are fully devoted to the discipleship of DTS students. I highly recommend Heidebeek as a perfect choice for a DTS. Their attention to detail and organization makes for a wonderful experience. But it is their passion for the Lord that is truly contagious and filters down into every aspect of the DTS. And as a bonus the Dutch culture is exciting and the beauty of Holland is breath taking.
Please pray specifically about YWAM Heidebeek as your destination for a DTS.
YWAM / DTS Speaker
Johan and I did our DTS on Heidebeek back in 1980 and it completely turned our lives upside down. We learned a lot from as well lectures in the classroom (from great international speakers), but also outside of the classroom. We learned from experienced missionaries and were taken by the hand and challenged to obey God. That was only the start of our 32 years within YWAM. We are truly privileged to be a part of the YWAM family worldwide and we really advice you to pray to follow a DTS at YWAM Heidebeek. To get to know God (better) and make Him known!
