On May 9, Europe Day, the Schuman Centre for European Studies will be launched. Sixty years before, on May 9, 1950, Robert Schuman (French foreign minister) called France, Germany and others to pool together their coal and steel productions in order to promote peace on the European continent. This was the first move towards the creation of the European Union.
